A Trip to the Beach

It's Thursday 26th March and we are currently in day 3 of lockdown. As Covid-19 continues to sweep across the globe, the safest thing we as a nation can do is to stay inside. We are not being asked to do anything too taxing. We have been ordered to the sofa and watch TV if you think about it. However, even the simplest of things can prove difficult. Turns out staying inside is very hard. Despite the massive to-do list, working from home etc, boredom and irritation at the same four walls is very much real.
My main job is a teacher and given the current situation I am working from home. However, in between the breaks and in the evenings I want to dedicate to my main hobby- photography. I started this website to showcase some of my favourite locations mainly in Northern Ireland. Needless to say, I have neglected it over the past few months. Given our current situation and to take my mind of everything else I have decided to resurrect it! I have been out and about with my camera (pre-lockdown!) and as a form of escapism for us all I thought I would post some of my favourite images.
It is no secret that the North Coast is my favourite place. There are just so many locations that are stunning. A few weeks ago, wanting to get out of the house for a few hours we decided to take a drive to the beach. Now, if you are also a fan of the North Coast then you will be very familar with the 'White Rocks'. An absolutely gorgeous stretch of beach in Portrush, famous for its sand dunes and off course the white cliffs that surround it. It's a firm favourite for most people from Northern Ireland and it's really not hard to see why.
We went for a brief walk along the beach and in true Northern Ireland fashion, the clouds were practically black and a massive down pour was imminent. However, just before the heavens opened the light was actually ok! The rays reflected down onto the ocean giving a nice glare and the clouds were just heavy enough to add some definition to the pictures but not completely overshadow everything. Obviously the light wasn't great but you just try to work with what you have. This is something I am still figuring out. When the elements are not playing ball it really helps you improve your camera skills.

I managed to get a few snaps before we ran for shelter in the car. Looking back on them now they are bringing me a sense of comfort! A little bit of serenity in what can only be described as a chaotic situation. Whilst I can't get to the beach at the minute I still have the pictures of a fun afternoon and can start making plans to visit again when all this is over!
I hope they bring you a little bit of comfort also.
Stay safe.
